Indian car buyers are in for a windfall this September. Following the government’s bold move to slash GST rates on automobiles from 28% down to 18%, major carmakers have wasted no time passing these savings on to customers. Some of the biggest price cuts in recent memory—ranging from tens of thousands to over ₹30 lakh—are now rolling out across the country, right as the festive season kicks off.

Steep Discounts Across Mass and Luxury Segments

Force Motors Ltd., one of India’s most prominent commercial vehicle makers, has led with sweeping reductions across its lineup. The rugged Gurkha SUV now starts at ₹16.87 lakh for the three-door and ₹18.50 lakh for the five-door variant, after cuts ranging from ₹92,900 up to ₹1.25 lakh. The ever-popular Traveller—a mainstay in passenger transport, school bus, ambulance, and cargo avatars—sees prices slashed by anywhere between ₹1.18 lakh and ₹4.52 lakh depending on configuration. Notably, the luxury Urbania people-mover gets a jaw-dropping reduction of nearly ₹6.8 lakh.

According to Force Motors’ latest figures, these changes are expected to fuel demand not just among private buyers but also fleet operators gearing up for the busy holiday period.

Luxury Cars See Massive Cuts

It’s not just mass-market vehicles feeling the impact—luxury brands are riding this GST wave too. Mercedes S-Class models have seen reductions exceeding ₹10 lakh, while Land Rover’s Range Rover now comes in over ₹30 lakh cheaper than before (from a previous price of about ₹4.6 lakh). Even the Defender isn’t left behind, with cuts between ₹7 lakh and a staggering ₹18.6 lakh.
