India’s electric vehicle (EV) scene is about to get a turbocharge. Over the next 6–8 months, Indian buyers will have a flurry of new choices as at least seven new electric cars and SUVs hit the market. Big players like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Kia—and even Tesla—are rolling out their latest models, signaling that 2025-26 could be a turning point for India’s EV journey.

Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota’s Twin: Diwali Launch

One of the biggest headlines is the confirmed launch of the Maruti e-Vitara during Diwali later this year. Built on the Heartect-e platform, the e-Vitara offers battery options of 49 kWh and 61 kWh, promising a driving range of over 500 km per charge—impressive for city commuters and highway travelers alike. Standard safety tech includes 7 airbags, while higher trims get Level 2 ADAS features. Toyota will also release its own version with near-identical specs.

Three-Row Electric SUVs and New Rivals

For families needing extra space, India’s first three-row (7-seater) electric SUV arrives in the next few months. It’ll use 59 kWh or beefy 79 kWh battery packs from the XEV 9e, with a top range expected to exceed 600 km. Another entry, the Syros EV—launching by end-2025—will go head-to-head with Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. Syros should feature Hyundai Inster-sourced batteries (42 kWh or 49 kWh).

Kia has already stepped up with its most affordable EV yet—the made-in-India Carens Clavis EV—borrowing design cues from its ICE sibling but swapping in full LED lights and a closed-off grille.

On July 15th, Tesla finally entered India with the Model Y. The American icon boasts a minimalist interior highlighted by a massive 15.4-inch touchscreen and powered, ventilated front seats. Range numbers are yet to be officially quoted for India, but global figures suggest it’ll compete squarely in the premium segment.

The Two-Wheeler Surge

It’s not just cars making waves. Ather Energy recorded robust sales in July (16,231 units), up nearly 12% from June. Hero MotoCorp also surged to fifth place with 10,489 units sold—a staggering month-on-month growth of nearly 37%—buoyed by buzz around its new Vida Vx2.
