A decline of 9% and then 6% of Ola Electric mobility shares on Monday and Tuesday has been recorded, after the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued a show cause notice to the CEO of the Ola Electric Bhavish Aggarwal. Where as per the reports. 42% of the company’s stocks are now on the verge of shrinking.
The show-cause has been issued based on alleged violation of consumer rights, misleading advertisement and unfair trade practices, as confirmed by the company during an exchange filing.
Also, the manufacturing defects, partial or no refunds on booking cancellations, recurring defects despite servicing, overcharging, inaccurate invoices, and multiple issues with batteries and vehicle components, are some of the major concerns that might look like a strain of challenges that the company might have to deal with.
The company said it has 15 days to file a response to the show cause notice from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).
Additionally, the controversial standup comedian/ satirist ‘Kunal Kamra’ had posted on the social platform ‘X’ about these issues highlighting the basic problems of the customers regarding the ola electric scooters and shared an image of a number of Ola EV scooters parked together in front of a service center, by tagging the company and said, these EV bikes serve as a lifeline to a lot of daily wage workers in India and do the Indian consumers deserve this? Though this kind of statement could have been taken as a wakeup call, a social media war between the CEO of the company Bhavish Aggarwal, along with Harsh Goenka against the comedian did the work of adding fuel to the fire.
As a response to all the complaints of the customers, and to regain people’s trust over the company it announced that they are introducing AI-driven remote diagnostics and proactive maintenance services to identify and address potential issues before they escalate, and for more complex repairs which takes time, customers will be provided with a backup Ola scooter or Ola Cabs coupons.
On a lighter note though in our previous article we have promoted the EV scooter service of Ola electric ventures, we were unable to assess the probable problems that might be caused by the product.
