Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Grabs 22.6% Segment Share, Leads India’s Best-Selling 7-Seater Cars in April 2026; Mahindra Scorpio Sells 14,719 Units

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga dominated India’s 7-seater segment in April 2026 with a 22.6% market share, while Mahindra Scorpio followed with 14,719 units sold despite a slight YoY dip. The segment saw strong growth, fueled by families and fleet buyers.

India’s love affair with spacious family vehicles shows no sign of cooling. In April 2026, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cemented its position as the nation’s best-selling 7-seater car, commanding an impressive 22.6% segment share. The Ertiga’s dominance highlights its enduring appeal to both Indian families and fleet operators, who value its blend of affordability, practicality, and reliability.

Scorpio Holds Second, Faces Slight Slowdown

Hot on Ertiga’s heels, the Mahindra Scorpio secured the second spot with 14,719 units sold in April. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the rugged SUV, as it recorded a 5.2% year-on-year decline compared to April 2025. That said, the Scorpio’s sales figures remain robust, underlining its continued popularity among SUV enthusiasts looking for a tough, go-anywhere vehicle.

The broader 7-seater segment in India has been on an upswing, propelled by rising demand for multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs). Whether it’s larger families needing extra seats or fleet buyers prioritizing versatility, this segment has managed to buck the trend of overall industry sluggishness. Models like the Toyota Innova Hycross, Mahindra Bolero, Kia Carens, and Mahindra XUV700 also feature strongly in the April sales charts, contributing to this segment’s growth story.

Safety and Features Gain Traction

Interestingly, while the Ertiga and Scorpio lead in sales, newer entrants and established rivals are ramping up their game, focusing on safety features and electric vehicle (EV) technology. The Kia Seltos, for example, is making headlines in the ICE (internal combustion engine) market for its impressive safety scores, while electric SUVs are beginning to carve out their own space in the 7-seater landscape.

With demand showing no signs of waning and manufacturers consistently refreshing their line-ups, India’s 7-seater market is set for more action in the coming months. For now, though, the Ertiga wears the crown — and it doesn’t look like it’s leaving the throne any time soon.
