April is shaping up to be a big month for Indian car buyers, with a flurry of launches and new arrivals lined up from major automakers. Among the most anticipated is the facelifted Volkswagen Taigun, which will make its India debut on April 9, 2026. This marks the first major update to Volkswagen’s popular midsize SUV since its initial launch back in 2021.
So, what’s new with the 2026 Taigun? For starters, Volkswagen is giving the SUV a sharper, more modern look, drawing inspiration from its global siblings. Expect subtle but noticeable design tweaks on the outside and an upgraded cabin experience inside. The features list is set to expand as well, with more technology and creature comforts packed in to keep up with fierce rivals like the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, and Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
Major Mechanical Update: Eight-Speed Automatic Gearbox
One of the headline changes is under the hood. The 1.0-litre petrol engine will now be paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox—a significant step up from the previous offering. This upgrade should help refine the driving experience and appeal to those who spend a lot of time in city traffic. While Volkswagen hasn’t revealed full specifications yet, the addition of the new gearbox is likely to be a major draw for potential buyers.
As for pricing, sources suggest the facelifted Taigun will be positioned in the Rs 12 lakh to Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom) range, depending on the variant. While that’s a modest increase over the outgoing model, the bump seems justified given the enhanced technology, refreshed styling, and mechanical improvements. Pre-bookings are already open, with four colour options on the cards and deliveries scheduled to begin in May 2026.
A Busy Month for New Launches
The Taigun isn’t the only headline-grabber this April. The Indian market will also see the debut of the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV, price announcements for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella (with a claimed range up to 543 km), and the arrival of the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Brezza—now with an underbody CNG tank. MG’s Majestor, successor to the Gloster, is also about to hit showrooms.
With new models flooding the market as the new financial year begins, the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift lands at a crucial time. Volkswagen will be hoping its refreshed SUV, now loaded with more tech and a slick new gearbox, will help it hold its own in the ever-intensifying midsize SUV battle.
