Apple is shaking things up again—and this time, it’s all about the Camera app and Siri. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and several recent reports, iOS 27, expected to arrive this fall, will introduce the most customizable Camera app in iPhone history, alongside a totally rebuilt, AI-powered Siri assistant.
The Camera App Gets Personal
Gone are the days when iPhone users were stuck with Apple’s one-size-fits-all camera interface. With iOS 27, the Camera app will let users tailor nearly every aspect of shooting photos and videos. Each Camera mode—from Portraits to Videos—will offer its own set of customizable controls, accessible from a new transparent “Add Widgets” tray that slides up from the bottom of the app. Want quick access to depth-of-field controls, exposure settings, or Photographic Styles? Just add them as widgets. Prefer a simpler setup? Strip it down to the basics.
There are even more tweaks: Apple is moving the toggle for viewing all available controls from the top right to just next to the shutter button for easier one-handed operation. New grid and level features are coming for those who obsess over perfectly aligned shots. And with Apple’s Visual Intelligence tech reportedly baked right into the Camera, users can now expect AI-powered features like instant image search, on-the-fly translation of text in images, and smarter photo editing—all accessible via Siri.
Siri Grows Smarter—and More Present
Speaking of Siri, Apple isn’t just giving its assistant a facelift. The new Siri in iOS 27 is being rebuilt as an always-on intelligent agent, with a chatbot interface and the option to type requests in a revamped “Search or Ask” interface that will replace the current Spotlight Search. Siri’s iconic glowing animation is set to move from the iPhone’s border to the Dynamic Island, making it more visually integrated.
And for the first time, a standalone Siri app is coming. This will put even more advanced controls, including AI-driven Camera features, right at users’ fingertips. Apple is betting big on AI—and the iPhone 17, which debuted at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters, is expected to be the flagship device showing off these capabilities.
Beyond the Camera and Siri, iOS 27 will also introduce the “Liquid Glass” design overhaul, refining the look and feel of iPhones after last year’s controversial macOS 26 Tahoe update. Apple’s latest moves come as its shares hit all-time highs, and as the company continues to chase new heights in user experience and software design.
